A Couple of Cuties – May Linky Party with Vintage Photo Creative Scraps

A Couple of Cuties – May Linky Party with Vintage Photo Creative Scraps

Hello, everyone and Happy May!  It’s the first Monday of this gorgeous new month, so you know what that means – Crafty Secrets Linky Party time!  This month’s challenge is “Anything Goes,” and I decided to play with the new Digital Vintage Photo Creative Scraps.  Here’s a look at the card I made:

They sure are a couple of cuties!  They came from the Vintage Photo scraps, as did the frame and sentiment.  I sized everything in Word and printed it out.  A little later in this post I’ve got a quick tutorial on how I made the little frame for the picture, so stick around!  The tag and other little goodies came from the Travel Creative Scraps.  I added some crumpled kraft paper behind the picture, stitched around the edges, and glued it all to a brown card base.  Here’s the inside:

I chose “Congratulations” to go on the inside because I thought this would make an adorable card for a newly married couple.  It could also work as an engagement card, or any other milestone for that matter!  Here’s a quick look at how I made the frame on the front:

CHACB Challenge #3 : Vintage or Retro Style

Memories 3

Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #3: Vintage or Retro Style

Hello, everyone!  I’m writing to you today as one of the guest designers for the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog!  This week’s challenge is called Vintage or Retro, and here are the details:

Graphic 45 is our sponsor this month, so let’s see what you can make in a vintage or retro style. Do you hoard lace or vintage hat pins? Do you snap up all the postcards at yard sales? Do you love mid-century modern? Do you long for avocado appliances and orange shag carpets? Show your vintage or retro spin on a paper crafting project.

Graphic 45!  Vintage!  Be still my heart!  I usually tend towards a more clean and modern look, but every once in a while I love to tear some edges and put my Distress Inks to work.  Here’s the card I came up with:

Memories 1

In all honesty, this was my second attempt.  I started with something very different but was getting nowhere fast, so eventually I scrapped it and went a different direction, one that was more “me.”  I pulled out my Prima Marketing “Tea Thyme” kit that I’ve been hoarding for a few months now (it’s all just so lovely!  How can I cut up that gorgeous paper?) and set to work choosing the right papers.  Then, I dug through my stash and picked some matching ribbons.  The green satin has been in my stash, untouched because I only have a yard of it, for a very long time now.  The lace came wrapped around a wedding gift, and I’ve used small lengths of it here and there in a few projects.  The delicate pink ribbon with gold running through is one of my very favorites, and heaven forbid I run out by using it too often.  This, people, is how hoarding happens.  Ha!

After picking my ribbons and papers, I cut everything down to size, punched corners, made die cuts, and distressed ALL the edges.  Then, I stitched all the edges and stamped and embossed the flourished frame and the word “memories.”  The most time consuming part was probably arranging all the flowers and leaves (also from my Prima hoard) into just the right cluster.  When I finally got them all where I wanted them, I glued them down and added just a few pearls.

On the inside, I repeated the same papers:

The sentiment is a sticker I’ve had in my stash for a good long time.

This challenge runs for one more week, so you’ve got plenty of time to enter your own creation 🙂  Be sure to look over the challenge rules and enter your project with the linky tool on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog.   For more inspiration, be sure to check out all the beautiful projects made by members of the design team:

This matching invitation and RSVP card set feature whimsical heart die cuts and messy stitching.  The invitation is printed onto 74# 5 x 7 solid white cardstock with 3 heart windows, and layered onto blush pink vellum.  The layers are stitched together messily for texture and whimsy.  The RSVP card measures 3 x 4.25″ and echos the invitation design with vellum hearts and more messy stitching.

You’re Just My Type

Hi everyone!  Long time, no post, I know.  Been busy with life and orders and lately some crafting just for fun (!!!)  In other words, I finally have some new stuff to share with you!

A couple weeks ago, I ventured out to my friendly neighborhood Michaels store with the intention of buying ONE regular-priced item on which to use my 40% off coupon.  I left the store with WAY more than one item…but only one was regularly priced!  The rest were on sale or clearance and I just couldn’t pass them up…craft stores are very dangerous.  Anyway, one of the sale items was a glorious new pad of 12 x 12 designer paper, full of little snippets of inspiration!  That’s where today’s card came from.  Take a look:

my type 1

Very clean and simple, more about paper layering than stamping and cool techniques.  The typewriter, the polaroid behind it, the sentiment, and the polka dot paper all came from my new pad of paper.  I fussy cut the typewriter and glued it to a piece of lightweight chipboard to make it more sturdy, then applied Glossy Accents to the keys – now they look and feel so cool!  Just a touch of stamping with my VersaMark, a bit of colored twine, and some stitching later, the front was finished!

Here’s the inside:

my type 3

How cute?!  I’m quite tickled with the way this one turned out.

To finish it all off, I lined the envelope with the polka dot paper.  A lined enveloped ties everything together so nicely!

One of a Kind – The Vintage Seamstress

Hi everyone!  I’m sitting here watching the rain come down, listening to an interview about reaching your full potential, and trying to come up with some fun little story with which to start this post…but nothing’s coming to me 😛  So I’ll jump right in.

I started this card last week in the hopes of entering it in the Mojo Monday challenge and the Crafty Secrets linky party, but only finished it yesterday, far too late for either!  I’m still quite pleased with it, though, and hope you’ll enjoy it as well.  Take a look:

One of a Kind 1

I started by picking the tag and mannequin images from my Crafty Secrets “Sew Nice” Creative Scraps sheet.  Gorgeous vintage images.  Then I picked my One of a Kind sticker from my stash, grabbed a doily, and pulled out coordinating papers.  I stamped a damask pattern onto coral paper and clear embossed the design for an old, worn wallpaper kind of look, then inked up my doily with Vintage Photo distress ink and glued it onto the coral paper.  I wrapped some lace and satin ribbon around the coral paper, then layered the whole thing onto ivory cardstock and stitched around the edges.  Then came the distressing and more Vintage Photo ink around the edges 🙂  I layered the vintage images onto cardstock and stitched and distressed those edges as well, popped my sticker up on foam squares, and added a bow.  Then, inspiration struck and I stamped and fussy cut a little pair of scissors to hang from the tag.  I’m crazy about those little scissors.

I was going to add buttons and other bits and bobs, but I forgot  decided I like it the way it is 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Don’t forget to check in tomorrow for Wedding Wednesday! Have a great day!
