It’s Graduation Time: Hats off, Grad!

Hello again and happy Friday!  It’s an exciting time of year for so many students – graduation time!  Today is definitely exciting in this household; it’s the day when my wonderful husband graduates from his Master’s program!  He’s worked so hard these last two years, and I couldn’t be more proud of him.  In a couple months we’ll be off to a new place where he’ll start a new job.  What an adventure!

I have a matching duo of cards for you today, I hope you enjoy them:

I really enjoyed making these cards because they’re a slight departure from my norm.  I used my Spellbinders Labels 9 die to make a shaped card instead of the normal rectangular design.  They’re smaller than normal cards, measuring about 3 x 4.5″, but I think they’re the perfect size to accompany a gift.  The inside is completely blank for note-writing.

That’s it for today!  I’ll be back next week with a little more graduation inspiration for you.  Have a lovely weekend!

Red and Gold – an Elegant Christmas

Happy Friday!  Another week has come and gone, and there are only 5 days until Christmas!  I just can’t believe how this year has flown by.  Before you know it it’ll be 2014!  But, after all, we haven’t made it to Christmas quite yet, so I’ve still got Christmas cards to share with you 🙂  Today’s is simple and classy, just red and gold and elegant.  Have a look:

I actually made this card based on a Mojo Monday sketch, but didn’t have it finished in time to link up.  Oh well.  I still get to share it with you all!  You’re probably not surprised by now to see more gold embossing since I’ve told you about 47 times how much I like it, and I’ll go ahead and warn you – you’ll see more!  What can I say?  It’s great stuff.  I’m also a big fan of those little gold square brads I picked up for cheap a couple months ago.  I normally stick with plain round brads, and I’m awfully glad I didn’t in this case.  The construction of this card was simple, mostly paper layering.  I stamped and embossed the sentiment, layered it onto a kraft rectangle with pretty corners, added some gold glitter glue around the edges, and popped it up on foam squares.   I used some of the same papers on the inside, and left lots of space for a nice note:

That’s all for today!  Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!

Peace on Earth

Happy Monday!  Only 9 days until Christmas, can you believe it!?  Are you ready?  I still have a lot of gifts to buy or create and then WRAP!  I love wrapping presents 🙂  Particularly when they’re in a big ol’ box that’s easy to make beautiful 🙂  Anyway, wrapping presents doesn’t have anything to do with today’s cards, but oh well.  I have 2 cards to share with you today, and they both share the same theme: Peace.  Take a look:

I started this card with the gold-patterned paper and the stamp, and not much more.  It’s a little odd, I can’t tell you exactly how this one came together.  It just…did.  I stamped, embossed, die cut, dug through my stash, layered, punched, cut…and there it was!  I love how clean and visually interesting it is all at the same time.  Here’s the inside:

I’ve never done a card with both silver and gold.  Usually it’s one or the other, but the combo worked perfectly for this card.

The second card was inspired by the paper I used as the background:

It was already so beautiful with the silver foil flourish, all I had to do was figure out how to add elements without covering it up too much.  A little cluster of goodies was the perfect way 🙂  I fussy cut the label and stamped the sentiment, then added the blue rhinestones and glitter glue border.  I adhered that to a strip of navy paper that I had run through my Cuttlebug with a simple border die for a little more visual interest.  Then, I fussy cut the Christmas tree, used 3 different glues to add the snowflake, popped a bow on, and called it done!  Here’s the inside:

And there you have it, folks!  I hope you enjoyed today’s card selection.  Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!
