Home Sweet Home Card

Home Sweet Home 2

Home Sweet Home

Hello, everyone and Happy Friday!  Is your life defrosting at an acceptable rate?  I’m excited about the warmer temperatures we’re supposed to get in the next couple of days before the rain rolls in.  Anyway, I have a sweet little card for you today.  Take a look:

Home Sweet Home 1

It’s all paper-layering, no stamping involved.  Most of the papers came from a delightful American Crafts pad I picked up on super sale a while back.  I just love the soft colors.  I fussy cut the house and “home sweet home” polaroid frame from their sheets and added some Glossy Accents to the windows on the house.  The blue, pink, and polka dot papers were cut down to size, and then the white layer went through my Cuttlebug in my “Juli’s Garden” embossing folder.  Some corner punching, stitching, die cutting, and ribbon tying later, the card was complete.  The inside I kept simple, with coordinating papers and a short quote across the top:

Home Sweet Home 3

And there you have it!  I hope you enjoyed today’s post, and thanks for stopping by!  Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Red and Gold – an Elegant Christmas

Happy Friday!  Another week has come and gone, and there are only 5 days until Christmas!  I just can’t believe how this year has flown by.  Before you know it it’ll be 2014!  But, after all, we haven’t made it to Christmas quite yet, so I’ve still got Christmas cards to share with you 🙂  Today’s is simple and classy, just red and gold and elegant.  Have a look:

I actually made this card based on a Mojo Monday sketch, but didn’t have it finished in time to link up.  Oh well.  I still get to share it with you all!  You’re probably not surprised by now to see more gold embossing since I’ve told you about 47 times how much I like it, and I’ll go ahead and warn you – you’ll see more!  What can I say?  It’s great stuff.  I’m also a big fan of those little gold square brads I picked up for cheap a couple months ago.  I normally stick with plain round brads, and I’m awfully glad I didn’t in this case.  The construction of this card was simple, mostly paper layering.  I stamped and embossed the sentiment, layered it onto a kraft rectangle with pretty corners, added some gold glitter glue around the edges, and popped it up on foam squares.   I used some of the same papers on the inside, and left lots of space for a nice note:

That’s all for today!  Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!

It’s Your Birthday Card – Lace Doilies and Handmade Backgrounds

Hello again!  I’ve really been enjoying all the time I’ve had recently to make fun cards.  It’s very refreshing!  Today’s card was pretty quick and easy to make and turned out to be quite striking.  Take a look:

It's Your Birthday 1

This card measures 4 x 5.5″ and is of the most basic construction – 2 layers of paper and a raised sentiment.  The cool thing is, I made that lovely blue paper in the background!  I started by stamping the large lace doily onto white paper and embossing it in black.  Then, I used my Shaded Lilac, Salty Ocean, and Peacock Feathers Distress Inks with my blending tool to create a nice gradient.  I spritzed it with water, heat set it, then stamped the two smaller doilies with StazOn Stone Gray.  The sentiment is raised on a Spellbinders tag die cut that I heat embossed twice with silver powder.  The heat embossing gives a bit more dimension than just die cutting silver paper.

And, of course, I had to make the inside match!  I kept it simple with a couple stamps and small sentiment:

It's Your Birthday 2

That’s it for today, folks!  Thanks for stopping by, have a good one!

Mojo Monday 292 & Dynamic Duos – Happy Birthday

Hey everyone!  First things first, I just want to give you all a heads-up that the posts may be few and far between for the next few weeks.  Lots of things happening in the lovely month of May, so I’ll be busy busy busy.  I’m going to try to post at least twice a week, but we’ll see.  Don’t be alarmed if you don’t hear from me for a while!

And now, a card I made using this week’s Mojo Monday sketch and Dynamic Duos colors!  These two challenges go very well together, don’t you think?

I was so excited when I saw this week’s Dynamic Duos colors.  They are my favorites!  My old room is decorated in these colors, my wedding featured these colors, I have to consciously NOT decorate every room in our apartment in these colors.  I love them.

Here’s the card I came up with:

Happy birthday blue and yellow 1

I knew I wanted a lot of texture in this card, so I added stitching, a dry embossed panel, and I stamped a damask pattern onto blue card stock using light blue ink.  It lends a very subtle effect that I’m quite pleased with 🙂 The sentiment is heat embossed and popped up on foam squares.  That little rhinestone you see there at the bottom is actually a light blue.  Silly photography skills.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card!  There’s still plenty of time to play along with both Mojo Monday and Dynamic Duos, so get your paper out and craft! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Fancy-Pants Card

HAPPY FRIDAY, EVERYONE!  It’s almost the weekend!  How exciting!!!

The inspiration for today’s card was a bedroom.  Haha!  That sounds more interesting than it actually is…anyway, this bedroom I speak of is decorated in a very classy style with black, white, purple, and turquoise.  Peacock feathers, damask, silhouettes, that type of thing.  Here’s how I turned it into a card:

Dear Friend 1

Again, I wish my photography skills were better, because what you can’t tell is that this ribbon is a gorgeous royal purple.  The background is damask embossing after inking up the embossing folder, hence the black “outlines” around each design.  I love how it makes the design pop.  I made most of the flowers (if punching them out counts as making them), added a couple lace leaves, and clustered them all around a little cameo I found a Michaels.  I hand-wrote the banner and popped it up on foam squares.  The inside is blank so I could write a note 🙂  I just hope it made it through the mail ok!

Thanks for stopping by, have a fantastic weekend!
