Season’s Greetings Altered Box for Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #20
Hello everybody! I’m taking a short break from the hustle and bustle of Holiday Preparations to share a project with you! This project was inspired by the current challenge over at the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog. Here are the details:
Challenge #20 Box it Up!
Your challenge is to create some sort of altered box. You can create a box from scratch, or you can alter a pre-made box. Your box can be made of paper, wood, chipboard, plastic, or metal. As long as you dig into your hoard to decorate a box, you have met the challenge requirements! The box does not have to be used as a box…it can be used as home decor or for any purpose you can imagine. Let’s box it up!
It just so happens that I came across the perfect box as I was cleaning out my closet – great timing! I’ve had this box for years…I’m talking since early in my Brownie Scout days. Seriously. I had covered it with pictures of different animals I liked, bunnies and birds and dogs, etc. I planned to take a “before” picture, but I completely forgot! Anyway, I removed all the critters before covering the box anew. Take a look at the finished product:
All the papers came from stacks of Christmas pads that I’ve had for 2-3 years now, and the stickers and poinsettias came from my dwindling hoard of pre-made embellishments. Whenever I use them, I have to continually remind myself that they are, indeed, meant to be used and not hoarded. Here’s a straight-on look of the top:
The trim I used has been untouched in my stash for at least a year now, and I was actually really happy to use it for the first time. Maybe it’ll make more appearances this holiday season…
I made those hinges using scraps (yes, I hoard paper scraps too) and a corner punch, and I’m pleased with the way they turned out!
And there you have it! This box would make a great hostess gift, don’t you think? Or line it with wax paper and deliver some homemade goodies to a friend…oh, the possibilities! If you have an idea for a box project, be sure to enter it in the challenge before it ends at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 30th.
Have a lovely day and a Happy Thanksgiving!
Such a pretty box, Melody. Lovely work!
First, I love the re-purposing of a childhood treasure box. Second, while the top of the box is Christmas flowery gorgeousness, the faux hinges caught my eye first. I LOVE this box. Third, how big is it?
Gorgeous, love the hoarded Christmas papers you used! Thanks for joining us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the doily layered on top with the flowers all over, then I scrolled and saw the hinges on the side, the perfect addition.
Wonderful little box.
